Korczak (2011) | British Youth Music Theatre

Current shows

Korczak told the true story of a man who, in the most impossible circumstances, kept childhood alive through love and imagination. Featuring inspirational solo performances and soaring choral work, Korczak was presented by British Youth Music Theatre, the country’s leading national music theatre company for young people.

Janusz Korczak – a Polish Jew, a Warsaw doctor, a children’s writer and a broadcaster – protected 200 children from some of the worst horrors of World War II. Deeply inspired by the education he sees in the orphanages of South East London, he returns to Poland to create a similar model. By 1942 he, and the children in his care, find themselves living in appalling conditions of the Warsaw Ghetto…
BYMT’s moving and liberating musical retelling of the life of Korczak and his young people, was a story not of despair but of inspiration and hope, the victory of spirit over death itself.
